How do you reset to healthy levels of dopamine?
I was asked yesterday while giving a talk for the parents and alumni of the Taft School — how do you reset to healthy levels of dopamine?
Technology has gotten a bad rap. I will say like anything else in moderation, technology is very beneficial for learning, connection, entertainment, and more. Let’s face it—we can’t live without it, nor do we want to!
Balance is key, and by incorporating these activities regularly for you and for your kids, we ensure levels of dopamine resume to physiologically healthy levels.
Here is your master list. Try and check a few things off every day, and you will be well on your way. ✅
☀️ Sunshine - get outside!
🪴 Nature - especially taking a walk in new environments.
🏃🏽♂️Exercise - especially aerobic activity.
🎵Music - nothing better than a great playlist.
👯♀️Social connection - spend time with friends and 🐶’s—laughing, hugging, deep conversations.
🎨 Creativity - also beneficial for anxiety—writing, dancing, gardening, instruments, art.
🧘🏽♀️Meditation and Mindfulness - even 5-10 min.
😴 Sleep - a good night’s rest and naps!
✅ Lists - Setting and achieving small goals and checking them off.
